Cascade Peaks, Peak Marboré and Monte Perdido
2nd week of February 2011
July Beneden, Peter Oliva, Igor Illarramendi, Pilti, Chelis and Rafael Gomez, Alfredo Torreblanca, Mush and George G ª-Dihinx

never been in the top of Monte Perdido in winter and less during those hours, and about 4 pm and 4 having previously topped three thousand that day. The lights of that February evening were clean, oblique, highlighting the shadows and topography of the Ordesa National Park. Our previous raise the spittoon Monte Perdido, with Pilti and Igor front and behind with Julio and Pedro had also been spectacular. Gradually lifting us above the peaks that we saw, to be above them all. All the lights bathed in the afternoon.

And there we were, only a few minutes, the highest limestone peak in Europe. Góriz we had left after 9 am, quietly, with little sun. We had initially gone the normal route to Lost, turns away to the left in the Rust Belt to attack one after another, the three peaks of the Cascade and from there to Pico Marboré. The views of the Cirque de Gavarnie, shaded in winter, were spectacular. There Half the group got back to adequate shelter Góriz. the rest: Julio, Pedro, Igor, Pilti and I, after skiing down to 2.930m, we put new skins and a girdle crossing halfway up under the cylinder, we glided in smooth descent to the frozen lake of Monte Perdido. And from there to here, the summit of Monte Perdido (3.355m).
But there is not much time for contemplation. We are just over 2 hours of light and we must return to the car, parked at Cuello Arenas (Nerín). After collecting the skis at the bottom of the spittoon, ski descend the frozen lake and then the normal route back to Góriz. In the rocky base of the Point of Stairs said goodbye of Pilti (outgoing, enthusiastic guard shelter), which will Góriz. Pilti tells us how to draw from a very long diagonal spot in a very gentle descent that will allow us to higher Góriz hill without having to put the skins. July
opens the track and trace the perfect diagonal, reaching the hill without putting your skin. Yupiii! It's already 5 pm when, after putting on new skins, we began the last climb of the day to the Sierra Custodia, we climb in just over 20 minutes. From above, will alternate times skiing down the back with another short walk, without risking ever looming flanking the Ordesa canyon cut. It's 6 pm when we finally launched since the last peak, skiing at Cuello Gordo. and then to Cuello Arenas.
already in the shade, do not stop to turn around to watch over and over again the Three Soroes the afternoon sun. My companions escape, my fingers freeze in the shade, but I keep coming back to photograph the Lost, as in the picture above this post. Are 18:22 hours when at last we reached the cars. El Monte Perdido fires we dyed pink tones.
In this year of many new routes with skis, today has been a mystical experience for me. We sailed for 9 hours on the heights of the protected National Park of Ordesa and Monte Perdido. We were completely alone all day. A gift that can not be paid anything.
Thank you all. Jorge

After going around to the south the cylinder, finally appears Monte Perdido. Since the sun is hitting the spittoon, which holds the shadow of the morning due to its western orientation. We're going to catch it at 3 pm, the ideal time.

Pilti Igor and leave early for the spitting. We leave all the weight on the base, along with the skis, to save power.

Julio and Pedro, starting the first ramp after leaving the skis and rucksacks

In the top of the spittoon, still in shadow in February. Here you can not fall, because you pick up speed and can not be stopped. Luckily the snow does not transform in February and the track is deep. Let safe, quiet but always alert. And I do not stop thousands of photos ...

More than valley cleft between mountains, narrow alley by where the river looking for his departure, in unequal competition with impressive rock walls that will close the crossing. February 2011 DAY 1: Punta de las Olas and SE Baudrimont

Pedro Oliva saving in mixed ice and rock the key step access to the Punta de las Olas. From above, Julio Benede secured with a sling you brought for the occasion. Thanks Julio!

Ordesa, Day 1: Punta de las Olas (3.002m) and SE Baudrimont (3.026m)
July Beneden, Igor Illarramendi, Peter Oliva, Champi, Alfredo and Jorge G ª-Dihinx

Taking advantage of this aniciciclón, we take us two days in the 2nd week of February to finally visit the National Park Ordesa y Monte Perdido, which has an ideal snowmaking South after snowfall this season yet has so little snow at lower altitudes.
am from Zaragoza and marched to Nerín to exit from the slopes skiing at Cuello Arenas. Day
clean. Level with the tables and got into the back of Sierra Custody. We do not know where to look, because everywhere flip: The cut Añisclo the SE, SW Ordesa canyon, three Serols north ... What high level paisajísistico!
advantage that we are in the eastern part of the park and that night we slept in the ref Góriz, after declining to sup coll to put skins and throw Góriz to the Punta de las Olas, the easternmost three thousand of the park.
We know there is a step in the rock band that protects the circus between the Soum de Ramond and Punta de las Olas. We think it will only ease dry rock climb but, alas gentlemen, that is a mixture of ice and rock live with 3 feet of climbing! Now what?
Then in July out of the hat a string of 13 metritos, enough so that, after rising to Igor and his hair (the one who knows you know), we can secure an advantage Mallon on a nail is placed at the output of the step. What bieenn!
So, one by one, we spent the large loop that Julius does, under the legs and up without fear, nailing the ice ax and crampons tips on rock and ice. Good practice of joint, but without real fire (ha ha).
Once the pass, we return with skins and skis heading north to the highlands into Soum de Ramond and Punta de las Olas. Up there faces north and the plains are alive on ice, so we ski and climb easily walk to the Punta de las Olas, our first three thousand of these two days. Pineta valley is beautiful. We wanted to go after the Soum de Ramond or even Lost and down the Góriz normal. But the north faces have an ice crystal that scares anyone.
So, we got quietly down his face Baudrimont south to the SE (or Pico Rabada and Navarro), by foot and has a beautiful view on the Balcon de Pineta.
We see that in February, at 16:15 hours, the cylinder cover with its shadow Tucarroya ref, so we learn the lesson: do not go to sleep Tucarroya in February. At least from March to enjoy the afternoon sun at the shelter. Ummm ...
We again descended on skis and skiing to step into the band, which rappelling smoothly. Course to continue skiing for Góriz sup coll, with a dreamy sunset lights. It's after 5 and the sun is a magical tone. From the pass we'll drop in a smooth diagonal until Góriz shelter that arrive before 6 pm. There we Refa and Chelis and Pilti guards and Luis.
Together enjoy a dinner that night of brotherhood. NEXT day we face a bunch of three thousand and if we can, culminating in the Perdido. Let's see what happens.
What a day so complete, what Rebuffat: Ice, snow and rock! We go to sleep. Shhsssss ... Jorge

After leaving the circus last snow, we only have the back end to the top of the Punta de las Olas
