We were entering the last week of January and there were complaints that there was enough snow, but even with that "light snow" we were just a face south, spotted a days before from the top of Pico Royo. We left the dam
La Sarra (Sallent) to 1.440m, walking down the runway. A few minutes appears an entrance to another track that comes in Sallent and a little further, we can take and a path that goes to the left and by addressing the entire track will allow us to climb the snow in just 45 min. We take a rope around 1.750m has already snow overlooking the Puiarcol. remove skis back later area in a long track the sun to a curve to the right after which we see the para-avalanches (altitude 1.900m) and where the snow is continuing to be the shaded area.
We approach the track heading north and see the bottom Arrudi the artist's home. Well before reaching it, where the track crosses a creek with a bridge line, we will turn right (E) to go to the camber of the Cubetilla, a soft natural valley leading us to the East first, then soft curve north toward the hill to the Cubetilla (ideal way to go to Respomuso!).
From the hill climb with crampons to the top, incredible views into the valley of Tena if we look to the south. Looking north we have the whole area of Respomuso. Our original idea was from the very top down the south face, a big shovel to enjoy top to bottom. But the extreme cold of these days maintains a stiff and dangerous, so we prefer to be cautious and back with crampons to the hill, from where we will ski descent.
The south facing slope is ideal, always flowing through the natural valley, to the runway. It does not get up very early, as the initial rise in South and West and then take to soften the snow.
Tip: When you go up the path that is continually cutting the track should look at the last entry to the track, as there is no milestone marker. Since then, around the corner, if you do not find that entry to the path, you risk getting off to walk the entire track. We were lucky because we found it in July, taking only 30 minutes since then remove skis to the car! It is an ideal way downhill mountain bike in summer and very comfortable to come up with skis on his back.
In short, an almost unknown corner of the Valle de Tena, so handy and very good skiing. South directions, safe and with snow for most of the season, from December to May. What more could you want?
And as icing on the cake, we believe that's the easy and safe way to access Respomuso skis, as the rising sun and these faces more north to see some sun. Great day
with a large company, helping each other in key steps. Thanks guys! Jorge
